Police Brutality

In the world we live in today there are unfair court trails, discrimination, hatred towards many people, killings and regular pedestrians getting harassed by police officers. Why is it that we as citizens having to show police officers respect and the police don’t have to show us respect? The police are here to protect and serve, not add there two cents when the don’t agree with something that does not go there way.
I listen to many people about the complications they have had with the law concerning speeding tickets, and getting pulled over for the way they looked. I was talking to a teacher from college corps and he was telling the class about a time he got pulled over by a cop because he was driving a nice expensive car and he was dressed like a person who didn’t dissever to own the car that expensive. He said the cop pulled him over and told him to get out the car. The cop looked him up and down and asked him why do you have this nice car and you are an illegal looking delinquent? Then he asked for they license and registration and seen that he was the owner of the car and the cop looked at him and said have a good day. What that cop said was not necessary. He should have just said can I see you license and registration, but he added the illegal looking delinquent part and that is not appropriate for him to say something like that.
Regular civilians work just as hard for their money just like cops but on are job we don’t act like the high school bully when things don’t go the way we want them to go. Rodney King is best known for his involvement in a police brutality case, involving the Los Angeles Police Department on March 3, 1991. The footage showed LAPD officers repeatedly beating King with their batons while other officers stood by watching, without taking any action to stop the beating. A portion of this footage was aired by news agencies around the world, causing public outrage that raised tensions between the black community and the LAPD and increased anger over police brutality and social inequalities with the Los Angeles police department. Four LAPD officers were later tried in a state court for the beating; three were freed and the jury failed to reach a verdict for the fourth. The announcement of the acquittals sparked the 1992 Los Angeles riots. A later federal trial for civil rights violations ended with two of the officers found blameworthy and sent to prison and the other two officers acquitted. So how hard we fight police they always seem to have the upper hand. The video shows the cops beating and watching him get beat and two officers don’t get any punishment.
Why do police officers do the things they do to people? Why disrespect and hurt someone who will never hurt you? That’s something I will never understand. People where doing a peaceful occupy movement at UC Davis and they were attacked by a police officer with pepper spray right in their faces. Multiple blasts of pepper spray to the face all fired at point-blank range. The rude police officers were put on a suspension as have two officers captured on video spraying the peaceful occupy movers. This is not fair because those occupy movers where they’re peacefully not disturbing anybody or anything.
If police officer treat people like they treat there families, more people will like and respect cops if they just act like they care about whom they are talking to. The police are good people I think they just need a taste of there own medicine. All that us as civilians want from the police officers is respect. If the cops gave us and showed us respect more people will trust the police for things. If cops act like they are acting then I don’t think anyone will respect them.

individual research outline

introduction:
A: I will get there attention by making me sound interesting and by having prof of what i am saying is true
B: I am qualified to speak on this topic because i am apart of the 99%
C: the main purpose of my presentation is to aware people of the occupy movement
D: my main point are how police can abuse there power and get away with it

body: Do you think police officers abuse their power?
1 yes i think police officers do abuse there power because if something doesn't go there way are they hear something they don't like, they will do there best to make sure the person who said or did something be hurt i there life mentally or physically.
2 police officers are good but i think there are more bad cops then good ones because you never hear of a cop doing something good. we always here the bad things.

1 the police are like high school bullies, they act on innocent people because they want people to feel scared of them. I have police officers in my family and they even said they abuse there power because they no they can't get in trouble for it.
2 if i ever become a police officer i will be there for the right reasons and not just for having more power then regular civilians. if police commander in chief would be more strict on there officers they would avid by the rules they are suppose to.

1 not to long ago with the occupy movement at UC Davis the protesters were peaceful and humble but out of nowhere a cop came and sprayed peppers prey in the occupy movements eyes. that cop did get suspended from work but he should have gotten fired.
2 if we have civilians that have been abused by a officer a cop are world might feel more safe and they would care about whats going on than just abusing there powers and not caring.

Conclusion:
A: i finished my report and hope you enjoyed it.
B: cops are good but they can over react and get over on poor civilians.
C: if police officers respected civilians then more people would respect then.

assignment #10

I . History of Documentary Film

A. Pre-1900-Early film was dominated by the novelty of showing an event. They were single-shot moments captured on film: a train entering a station, a boat docking, or factory workers leaving work. These short films were called "actuality" films; the term "documentary" was not coined until 1926. Many of the first films, such as those made by Aguste and Louis Luimire, were a minute or less in length, due to technological limitations.

B. 1900–1920- were very popular in the early part of the 20th century. They were often referred to by distributors as "scenics." Scenics were among the most popular sort of films at the time.An important early film to move beyond the concept of the scenic was (1914), which embraced in a staged story presented as truthful re-enactments of the life of.

1) Romanticism- in 1922, documentary film embraced Flaherty filmed a number of heavily staged romantic films during this time period, often showing how his subjects would have lived 100 years earlier and not how they lived right then.

2)The city symphony- The continental, or realist, tradition focused on humans within human-made environments, and included the so-called "city symphony" films. These films tend to feature people as products of their environment.

3) Kino-Pravda- was central to the newsreel series of the 1920s. Vertov believed the camera with its varied lenses, shot-counter shot editing, time-lapse, ability to slow motion, stop motion and fast-motion could render reality more accurately than the human eye, and made a film philosophy out of it.

4) Newsreel tradition- The newsreel tradition is important in documentary film; newsreels were also sometimes staged but were usually re-enactments of events that had already happened, not attempts to steer events as they were in the process of happening. For instance, much of the battle footage from the early 20th century was staged; the cameramen would usually arrive on site after a major battle and re-enact scenes to film them.

D. 1920s–1940s-The propagandist tradition consists of films made with the explicit purpose of persuading an audience of a point. One of the most notorious propaganda is film which chronicled the 1934 and was commissioned by hitler. Leftist filmmakers the Belgian coal mining region. directed a documentary. In Canada the , set up by John Grierson, was created for the same propaganda reasons. It also created newsreels that were seen by their national governments as legitimate counter-propaganda to the psychological warfare of naziGermany.

E. 1950s–1970s-Cinéma vérité and similar documentary traditions can thus be seen, in a broader perspective, as a reaction against studio-based film production constraints. Shooting on location, with smaller crews, would also happen in filmmakers taking advantage of advances in technology allowing smaller, handheld cameras and synchronized sound to film events on location as they unfolded. The fundamentals of the style include following a person during a crisis with a moving, often handheld, camera to capture more personal reactions

1) Cinéma-vérité- (or the closely related direct cinima ) was dependent on some technical advances in order to exist: light, quiet and reliable cameras, and portable sync sound.

2) Political weapons- In the 1960s and 1970s, documentary film was often conceived as a political weapon against neocolonialism and capitalism in general, especially in latin America, but also in a changing society. La Hora de los hornos influenced a whole generation of filmmakers. Among the many political documentaries early 1970s; "Chile: A Special Report," a public television's first in depth expository look of the September 1973 overthrow of the legitimate Salvador Allende, Chilean government by the Pinochet armed forces, who ruled by terror.

3) Modern documentaries- The nature of documentary films has expanded in the past 20 years from the cinema verité style introduced in the 1960s in which the use of portable camera and sound equipment allowed an intimate relationship between filmmaker and subject. The line blurs between documentary and narrative and some works are very personal, such as the late Marlon Riggs Tongues Untied (1989) and Black Is...Black Ain't (1995), which mix expressive, poetic, and rhetorical elements and stresses subjectivities rather than historical materials.

4) Documentaries without words-Films in the documentary form without words have been made. From 1982, the Qatsi trilogy and the similar Baraka could be described as visual tone poems, with music related to the images, but no spoken content. Koyaanisqasi (part of the Qatsi trilogy) consists primarily of slow motion and time laps photography of cities and many natural landscapes across the united states. Baraka tries to capture the great pulse of humanity as it flocks and swarms in daily activity and religious ceremonies.

assignment #6

final
draft

the original

The One and Only. D-REEZY

Pablo Picasso is one of the most influential artist that changed art. Picasso is a very well know and respected man even after his death. Picasso paintings are magnificent and the most expansive art pieces in the United States of America. Picasso is best know for his paintings because he was the first painter to paint about feelings and the way he showed his and others feelings were threw art.
the features that I best felt represents my art work are the lines and the colors I used to put my Picasso painting together. the lines best represents my painting because they separate the different colors that I felt at that described the way I felt at that moment. the mane colors I used were blue, purple, red, yellow, and green. those colors best represents me because they are lively colors that mean your in a good mood. one color I had that wasn't a good color was black, that color is because I was annoyed.

The size of my photo is 8x10, and the main tools I used are paint brush, lasso tool, paint bucket tool, and the eraser tool. the software that was used to complete this project was photo shop the experience i have with photo shop is vary limited but I made it threw the doings of the project. in my Picasso piece i have multiple layers that I needed to complete my Picasso art piece. Some layers that I have are original photo, nose, left and right eye, and a duplication of the original photo. to make my Picasso piece look the way it is I had to use the pencil, warp, distort, liquefy tool and many colors that I feel represents me the best.

The colors I used were all good mood colors except for black. I used that color because I got annoyed and didn’t know how to make the painting look like a “real” Picasso painting and I think mine looks pretty good. the colors are separated by the way I wanted the colors to go. like the green and purple and the top of my head and the blue on the side of my face with the yellow in the middle and the lower left side of my face. I added those colors because i want people to know I have a Great life and nobody can stop me from being myself. I added multiple colors to express my mood, emotions and my daily feel of life. I strongly feel my painting represents that because I worked hard on completing the assignment and I did to the best of my ability.

This Picasso painting is one of my best works because its about me, and how i feel in my day to day life. something that I would change in the piece are to use less colors and add more emotion to the Picasso painting. Over all I fell I did a great job and my piece of art shows how hard I worked and how bad I wanted it to be finished. My painting shows a lot of emotion and I made it the way I wanted it to be.
